Pride Goeth Before the Fall
Today I was asked to substitute for the choir pianist who was ill. I usually try to familiarize myself with the songs just in case I'm ever needed to sub, so it isn't like I'm going in cold. But for some reason I got a little nervous today because we had a guest congregation singing with us, and we had a special flautist come help with one of the arrangements. As I sat there waiting for us to start, I got a little nervous. But then it occurred to me that the part of us that is insecure is the part of us that is proud. Pride keeps us from wanting to make any mistakes. Pride worries what others will think about us. As soon as I had that thought, I immediately stopped being nervous, and started to just look forward to the challenge of doing the best that I could. It went well!
