What are you reading?

When I was a missionary I had a Mission President who over saw my work. He has been a Professor at BYU for many years, although now is retired and only does occasional work with the university now. He is very well read, and highly educated. When we were living in China, he came to teach comparative religion to the ministry of religion in China. I saw him quite often then because we attended church together on Sundays. Many times, when I saw him, he would ask me, "What are you reading now?". I always thought that was a very interesting question, not one people usually ask each other. Thank goodness I usually have a book I am reading, so I was always able to answer him.
I have some friends who never read. It actually shocks me that some people don't read. Some times people tell me they have never read a book since high school. I just can't fathom that. Even if I don't finish every book I start, I still delve in to many kinds of books. My favorite type of book is an Autobiography, or Biography.
So let me ask you. What are you reading?

I just finished Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. I like him because I hate love scenes in books. I usually skip over them, because I don't want to know about anyone's love life. Ever. ;)
And you can actually imagine that his stories happen, they are real. If I ever get caught up at work, I will read Smoke Jumper by Nicholas Evans...
I can read fast (not as fast as some people in my family) and can finish a book in just a few hours, but sometimes I just can't justify those hours when there is always something else to be done like work or school or cleaning the house...

After a long hiatus, I am intermittently reading the Doctrine and Covenants again...I also read Popular Photography, Digital Photographer, Outdoor Photography, and Shutterbug magazines every month. I don't seem to have the attention span anymore to read books...

I am reading a biography on Porter Rockwell right now. I actually gave it to my Dad for Christmas and wasn't interested in it until I gave it to him and read the flap. It's actually quite interesting. For one thing, I didn't realize that Porter had set up a bar in the Nauvoo Mansion house. (I hope I have the facts straight) It was one of the few fights that Joseph and Emma got into. Emma basically said, "Either Porter goes, or it's me and the kids." Porter moved the bar. I'm only about 100 pgs. into it, but if you like biographies, it has a lot of interesting history about the church. I have also read "Christmas Jars" and "Dear John" so far this year. I love to read, can't imagine life without it. I attribute that to the fact that Mom read to me a lot when I was little. ***L***

Have you read the part where Porter Rockwell told one of our horse-thief Huntington relatives to give up his gun and he would make sure he got medical attention, and when he surrendered his gun, shot him in cold blood? Grandma A sent us this story for Christmas...
