Hooked

Many of my friends have been commenting on facebook about "Downton Abbey".  I decided to get the "one month free" Neflix trial membership and start watching this series.  I might even buy a month or two of the membership to allow me to finish watching if needed.  All I can say is, I'm hooked!  I tend to prefer British actors overall.  I actually think they are better actors than most American actors.  I mean, you get a few good American actors, but it seems like almost every British actor is good.  Anyway, I'm really enjoying this series.  I also love the costuming!  I can't wait to watch the next episode.

For those of you who have watched the series, do you think this is a "chick flick" or do you think that men would enjoy watching too?  My husband hasn't been watching it with me.  My daughter passed by and thought the dialog was boring, but she had no idea of the story line.  I think it's brilliant!

I have a soft spot for period pieces but I do think this one is especially good; Ryan will even watch it with me. I the time period and the war help make it a little less of a chick flick.

Here in UK/Ireland we finished series three with a two hour special at Christmas. Series four begins production next month. I know several guys who talk about the weekly episodes and look forward to the next one. Then there are others who do not want to pretend they watch. ;)

Maggie Smith is wonderful and a fun person to work with. She was in The Best Exotic Magnolia Hotel, and now 'The Quartet'. It is wonderful to see so many good roles for older women these days. MS was 79 in December. Did you see Gosford Park? it was also from the pen of Julian Fellowes.

I think if you could get your husband to watch it from the beginning he'd like it better than to just pick up in season 4. I know my husband hates for me to have to keep telling him what went on in the past episodes. No, mine doesn't watch this with me, but I've thought quite often as I've watched it that he might have enjoyed it if I'd asked him to watch it from the beginning. He and I have watched several series like these - usually after they have already aired a couple of years - we just go to Net Flix and watch them. My husband won't watch real time tv at all because he hates commercials, so he tvos everything or watches it on Comcast Demand or Net Flix. :0)
