My husband is preparing to take his driver's license test here in China. He brought home the study questions; all 800 of them! He will have 100 questions, and will need to get like 90% correct.
He was reading some of the questions out loud to me, and we both had to laugh. The questions present different situations, and the correct answer mirrors the organized traffic laws in the U.S. But we laughed as we realized how much the traffic here DOESN'T follow their own laws! It kind of makes you wonder the point of the test. I have been in cars that drove around all the traffic, and in to the lane of the oncoming traffic. I have been in cars that ran red lights on purpose. I have been in cars here that have driven on the shoulder of the road at high speeds. I have watched so many near misses, it's a wonder I can close my eyes at night. So now I'm wondering how all these people passed the test in the first place!
As for me, I won't even try to get my driver's license. I have enough gray hair already.

Good decision. I never drive when I am out of town or overseas. I simply cannot afford to go back and forth if I ever got into an accident.
Will your husband learn to drive like a Chinese driver?
Looney, heaven help us if he learns to drive like a chinese driver! He already drives like a Bay area commuter, and that's bad enough!
Good luck to him, both in the test and in the driving.
maybe they need more traffic tickets and police enforcing the laws - if so they would probably have fewer lawbreakers!
Better thee than me!
What makes you think that the other drivers around you have actually sat and passed the driving test themselves?
A few years back I read an article with some advice on taking the test. Thankfully it is still on line:

Ha ha, that is great Looney! My husband has an Iphone app to help him study. But all of the office people think he's weird for trying to do this honestly. lol I actually might get an electric scooter. You don't have to have a license, and there is no age limit. And you can drive on the sidewalk and no one blinks an eye. :)
