I had the craving for Wonton soup tonight, so we went to my favorite chinese restaurant here in town. When the bill came, we were also given the traditional fortune cookies. I have to say that I liked these fortunes better than ones we usually get. For one thing, on the back of the fortune they have a chinese word for you to learn. But the actual fortunes were a little more interesting than ones I've gotten before. They weren't really fortunes per say, but interesting thoughts. Tell me what you think:
My husband's: "Cooking is easy. Good taste is hard. That's why you call take out."
Mine: "If I bring forth what is inside me, what I bring forth will save me." (still haven't figured out what this one is trying to say. lol)
My favorite one was my son's. I think it is quite profound!
"Comfort zones are most often expanded through discomfort."
I think if I heard mine in chinese it would make more sense. lol

I think that means if you foster and use your talents, for others, then they will lead to contentment.
I remember someone saying years ago that anyone who could read a book could cook. Yes. That is true, you can follow a recipe and produce a very edible dish, but it takes years of practice tasting, adjusting and getting to know what a particular consistency should look and feel like. Too salty.. add a spoon of honey, if it is soup or stew chop a potato and add it to soak up the excess salt.
Thanks Grannymar, that explanation does help!
My husband and I get oriental take-out sometimes. We save the fortunes from the cookies and pin them on my bulletin board - scattered amongst the photos I have pinned up there. :0)
The Chinese restaurants here do not serve fortune cookies. Not yet anyway! I used to get hilarious ones on my travels to Singapore and Hong Kong.
The comfort zone fortune certainly rings a bell with me.
