Hell or High Water

Well, last night on the news I saw a report that the boy scout camp is flooded, and some scouts are stranded on the other side of the river from the main part of the camp. Guess what. My son is one of those people stranded! They specifically showed footage of Camp Wolfboro. There is a river that runs through the middle of the camp, and there is a foot bridge that crosses it. But the river is so high that the foot bridge is under water. They have had to use a zip line to get food to the boys, since the cafeteria is on the other side of the foot bridge. They thought that the river would go down enough today that the boys could cross, but they aren't sure yet if the bridge is still structurally safe. They are due to come home Saturday.

I sure hope he is dry, and warm. I also hope that he is able to still pass off some merit badges, even though he is cut off from all of the merit badge counselors! And i hope the river doesn't rise any more!!

Your son will be fine he is after all a boy scout! ;) Motherhood is scary we always visualise our young offspring in the worst situations once they are out of our clutches. The pictures in our heads are bad enough without seeing the real thing online or TV.

Soon he will be home saying things like "Mom, what were you so worried about? I was fine"!

He will think it was cool! We have been worried about our boys too. They are on a High Adventure camp this week, and were supposed to spend one day in Bell Slot canyon. With the rainstorms that have been moving through, we hope they either didn't go, or made it in and out safely.

Delirious, if he is a Boy Scout and your son, take it from me that he will be perfectly fine and will find his way home safe and sound. I look forward to your posts on all his adventures, including all his new badges.

If it becomes dangerous the leaders will find a way to rescue him, and look at the stories he can tell his grandchildren now. :0)

Mam, i was on staff. Tuesday night there was a little rain then found out it was going to be a 20 hour storm. The next day i got woken up at 6A.M. to help in the kitchen. We made hot choclate, make boxes of food, and things that they might want. They reason you got news of this is because some adult leader went to a high elevation rock to make a phone call becuase we have no cell service in camp. We have a phone for emergencies only. We did everything possible to try to get to them. The worse thing that would happen is that they had to do a 50 mile hike to get around the river. They would have been fine.
