Tie Underground

My son has this friend at school who is what I think of as a "free spirit". He's very creative and has a lot of self confidence. One of the first times I saw him, he was wearing a hat that looked like a sock monkey head. Over the course of the school year, my son has been telling me about the "Russian army coat" and other military clothing he has been wearing. One day he wore a shirt and tie to school for no particular reason.
So now that the school has enforced uniforms, my son and his friend have decided to wear ties to school, even though it isn't part of the uniform. They decided they would be the "Tie underground". (whatever that means. lol) He ran out of time today and didn't get a tie to wear. I kind of think this will be short lived anyway. I'm not sure how long he is going to enjoy wearing a tie all day. lol
This reminded me of when I was about the same age. My best friend made the goal that she was going to wear a dress to school every other day. I was so impressed by this goal, that I decided to do it the next year during 9th grade. Looking back, I'm surprised that I actually did it because I hate wearing dresses. lol Even to this day, I don't enjoy wearing dresses. But for the entire year of 9th grade, I stuck to my goal. It's weird how one child leading out can influence other children. I never followed kids who did bad things, but this particular goal seemed so mature to me at the time. lol
I don't think the "tie underground" will last very long, but I'm curious to see what they come up with next. :)

And the funny thing is that when I went to school, we HAD to wear a dress, AND hose everyday!! One year, they had a "Sit-In", where everybody came to school and just sat down on the floor in the hall, to protest having to wear dresses. I guess it worked, because they changed the dress code. :0)

Pretty funny, the things we do when we are young. I love it.
