The Demons in Hell

This month, one of the radio stations has been broadcasting Christmas music all day. I usually don't listen to the radio much; I like to think while I'm driving, and the music distracts me. But I have enjoyed the Christmas music, and have listened most of the time while I'm in the car. My kids, on the other hand, hate it. There is usually this playful fight to turn the radio station to the channel each of us wants. I try to sneakily reach over and hit the preset button for the Christmas music, and they try to turn it to their hard rock station.

I have to say that even though I was a teenager in the 70's, the age of classic hard rock, I have never liked hard rock. There are songs I like, but by and large, it's just too noisy for me. I really have a hard time especially with "screamy" music. My kids know that if a screamy song comes on the radio, I will make them turn the channel, or turn it off. And I hate music where there is no actual singing. Rap would be a good example.

There is one phrase that my kids hear from me most often when I hear a song I especially dislike. I say to them, "Turn this off, it sounds like the demons in hell are being tortured by being dipped in hot oil." Now I don't know if any of you have heard that kind of music before, so I have a good example for you. If you can stomach it, here is a sound track of actual demons of hell being tortured: (I hope there isn't anything bad in this video....I couldn't actually watch the whole thing.)

I have always hated Rammstein. The band is actually pretty cool, but the lead singer is horrible! Plus there were some German swear-words in that (don't ask how I know...). I could listen to the instruments of that band, but no the "singer." I go more for John Meyer, Sting, etc.

Hahahahaha. I like Rammstein. Then again, I listen to a lot of stuff that would be banned from your car stereo ;-)
