Papas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be .......

Every day when I take my teenager to school, I am shocked by the way many of the girls are dressed. Some of these girls wear shorts that are so short they barely cover the girl's rear. Some of them are wearing clothes so tight, there is nothing left to the imagination. I've seen more cleavage at my son's school than anywhere else in my city. Some of the girls look like hookers.

What I wonder is where are the fathers? Women's brains are wired different than men's. When a woman looks at a girl in a short skirt or shorts, or in a blouse with a low cleavage, her reaction is not like the reaction of a man who sees the same thing. I think some mothers allow their daughters to dress inappropriately because they forget what influence it has upon the young men their daugthers will encounter during the day. A young girl's brain is wired even more differently. Most young girls think they look "cute" or "hip". If they understood that they look "sexy", many young girls would be surprised. When my son began middle school, we were told that many young kids dress inappropriately because they don't understand what is appropriate. They aren't thinking about how their dress affects others. They are just interested in dressing like popular stars on television or in movies. They are bombarded with media that makes inappropriate clothing seem normal. They have seen Brittany Spears bare her stomach and lower abdomen. To them, that is what being popular and hip is all about. But let me ask again, what about the fathers? Fathers, when your daughter walks down the stairs in a mini skirt and low cut blouse, what are you thinking? You know what that kind of clothing does to the mind of teenage boys. What are you thinking in allowing it?

I think maybe the problem is that men aren't usually home when the children leave for school. Most of them have already left for their long commute. I think if more men were there at the cross roads, when their daughters leave for school, our high school children would be dressing more appropriately. Please fathers, pay attention to what your daughters are wearing. Make sure that they aren't being sexualized by the clothing industry. Help them to stay innocent as long as possible.

My co-worker says all the time that he's glad that the girls wore baggy clothes in high school (he graduated in '91), because he'd be in trouble as a high school kid today with the girls dressed the way they do. Clothing started to really change (in Utah) around my Freshman or Sophomore year. Baby tees started being the new big thing. Utah, I'm sure, is mild compared to warm weathered California. :) lol

Police say it is usually someone who lives in or near your neighborhood. We are having break-ins and our mail being stolen. I suspect a couple of teenagers who are always walking our neighborhood.

Ok, sorry, I was meaning for the above comment to go on the post above this one and the computer jumped down and I didn't realize it was the wrong post. Just pretend it is on the one above. Hey, maybe I should post something about this post on the blog above.

I completely agree - after my divorce I decided I needed to update my look and start dressing more trendy, but no matter how hard I tried to convince myself that "this is the way everyone is dressing" I couldn't get myself to feel comfortable in alot of the clothes out there. If you watch tv you'll notice that nearly all women show cleavage, no matter the situation, and I think that is so false compared to real life, where that much cleavage is only seen in night clubs and on street corners.
