Vice President Debate

Did you watch the debate tonight? I watched part of it, not all of it. But I have to say that I was VERY surprised at how well Sarah Palin handled herself. I know this may not seem like a very political point, but one thing I really appreciated about her was the attitude that she brought to the debate. She was very positive and kind. Biden seemed uptight and angry. That really made it easier to watch and listen. One thing she did that had me almost applauding was that she corrected Biden when he referred once again to the Bush administration. Obama and Biden both, in each debate, kept referring to McCain/Palin as if they were the Bush administration. I kept wondering why McCain didn't call Obama on that. I was so happy when Sarah Palin corrected Biden and made the point that we should be looking at the future, not Bush's administration, and that McCain had disagreed with some of Bush's policies, as well as some of the Republican policies. I think this was one of the most important things that she said. I think overall she surprised many people.

I have to say that I'm getting a little tired of people talking about how McCain is going to die in office and Palin will take over. What makes them think he can't last another 4 years? Even though he has had health problems, I think he can hang in there. The media was talking about him as if he had already died, and were talking about "when" Palin took over, not "if".

It will be interesting to see how the vote goes. I do think that Palin really surprised everyone, and their favorability rating will go up measureabley now.

The part I liked the best was when she winked at the camera---and they left her mike turned on when she walked to the front of the stage. With the mike on she was very gracious to the moderator---not sure but I think they did that on purpose to trip her up---she done good.

i didn't get to watch the debate but i am so relieved to hear she did well, i know that I am voting for McCain but everywhere I turn all I see is Obama stuff, and I have been worried about McCain's electability ever since Palin was added to the ticket, so I feel a little easier now. :)

She did do a good job. She's a good speaker and brought up a lot of points that I know all of us have been thinking about. Example: You're opposed to the war? Then why did you vote for it?

I'm still really scared to see what will happen to our nation in the next few years. (No matter which party wins)

I didn't get to watch since J and I went up to the hospital to see his grandpa. I'm glad she did well.

I am really tired of people saying they dont' think McCain will win. Even McCain supporters say this. I say we all start a new trend. Let's all start saying that we
DO think he will win. I think there are a lot of undecided voters out there. There are also a lot of voters who only want to vote for a winner. So, let's start the saying that we think McCain WILL win!!!

I didn't watch the debate, but must say that I am tempted to get a Palin-McCain bumper sticker rather than McCain-Palin.

I agree. I thought that she did a great job. She was so charismatic and positive about the future. Biden just seemed to be stuck in the past.

I listened to the second half of hte debate and wish Palin hadn't avoided so many questions. I hate when politicians skirt issues or ignore them. Also, I hated how she said "also" almost every other word. :)

Having said that, I am still voting McCain-Palin because I think she will be a better vice-president than debater.

Palin didn't answer many of the questions. She even acknowledged that with her comment, "I'm not going to give you the answers you want." I wish they actually scored these debates like they would a high school or college debate team. That way there'd be a clear winner and you wouldn't have to listen to the spin each party puts on it afterward. I don't know why everyone seems to be so willing to vote for someone who seems to be so afraid to answer a question with a straight answer (did you see the Katie Couric interview where she couldn't name one Supreme Court decision, or one newspaper or magazine she read?).

I read several articles talking about how the Republican Party was so relieved that she didn't screw the debate up. Has the Bush Administration set the bar so low that someone not screwing something up is cause for celebration? Is that really the kind of person you want in one of the highest offices in the land?

Native Minnow, I think you indirectly hit on the Republican Party's main problem. The most powerful position in America for communicating is the presidency, but Bush has taken the attitude that if you don't say anything, then you won't make a gaffe. After eight years, most Americans have only heard the Left explaining why American values are a failure, while Bush has forfeited the opportunity to explain what America is all about. Sad.
