Seminary

Well, today was my first day of teaching seminary. Someone asked me how it went and I replied, "I learned that you really have to work to cover everything in that amount of time!". Today's lesson was just an introduction to the New Testament, and also an introduction to the study guides in the scriptures. (ie: footnotes, topical guide, maps, bible dictionary etc.) I don't really like splitting the lesson up in to two topics like that, but we got through it. Tomorrow and Thursday we discuss the plan of salvation. I've had ideas whirling around in my head about how to do this, but I haven't totally put it in stone yet. I can see that it's going to take a lot of creativity to find ways to involve the students and keep them awake. I only had one student fall asleep, so I guess that's success. :) The hardest part for me about all of this is that just when I need to be focusing on what I'm going to teach, I get this urge to write about the same topic on my religion blog. ;) But...first things first....

Sounds like a fun adventure. I like teaching, but sometimes it is hard to be creative.. for me. I am sure you will be splendid at being creative.

My CES director always told us not to think that we had to cover everything. His favorite saying to us was, "This is not the only time they will be ever study the New Testament (or whatever scripture book)." It's better to take one thing and teach it well than to skim through 4 or 5 things that the students hardly paid attention to. Good luck! I'm jealous of you and have really been missing it since school started.

You'll do great! It is hard to narrow down what to teach, but that's where the Spirit gets to help. And, you're right, keeping the students involved will help keep them awake. Have fun this year.
