A Lesson in Camoflauge

I happened to see this lizard today even though he was very well camoflauged.

I'm not as eagle-eyed as I would like to think I am though because I was walking along looking out over the water and almost stepped on this! I instantly knew it wasn't a rattler because I'm familiar with rattlers, but it did take a second longer for me to realize it was just a gopher snake, and in that second, I jumped high to get over it. lol

I've been afraid of snakes ever since I was young and was tormenting a garter snake that whipped around and bit my thumb. It served me right, but seeing how fast it could move surprised me. Now when I see a snake I immediately freeze in my tracks. It sucks.

I can hear the Crocodile Hunter exclaiming in my ear, "Isn't she just a beauty? Gorgeous! Look at her lovely skin and how she moves so deftly!". Steve Irwin, RIP.

Nice photos!

Sure looks dry…

Several years ago my wife and I where walking our dog in a very dry area in central British Columbia, she was ahead of the dog and I…

I saw she stepped on a large rattle snake and yelled at her to run, I have never seen her move so fast, the poor snake seemed almost as scared!

The dog found this all too interesting….

Actually LS, we are coming out of our rainy season, so it's not particularly dry yet, but will be soon. In the winter and spring the hills are green, and in the summer they are brown. You can see more pics at my photo blog: http://deliriousalbum.blogspot.com When I made it, I didn't know how to add a blog to this same address...I was afraid it would erase my original blog, so I used a different email address. bah

Hi D;

I have been in your area (beautiful area) many times over the years so I know the weather well, still to us in the Vancouver area that live in a rain forest your rainy season is like desert! LOL

By the way although we get a lot of rain we typically get no or almost no snow here in the city…

I just bookmarked your photoblog!! You have some very nice photos!!!!

You know my wife (Chocolate Girl) actually co-blogs with me and once a month she posts a series of photos, you can find them on the left sidebar on either Creation on the Blade or Life on the Blade….

Here is a sample of her photography…
