Can't Believe It

I had two unrelated things happen yesterday that just made me stop and shake my head.
1. I was shopping at Walmart looking for some gifts. I was looking carefully at something when a man passed me. I didn't look at him, only got a glimpse of him out of my periphreal vision, but he gave me the weirdest feeling. Something about the way he moved, his body language, just didn't seem right. I was intent on what I was looking at, so I didn't even look up, but a few seconds later I moved on to look at something else and he passed me again. This time I looked and saw that he had some strange body piercings. In case you haven't seen this kind before, they put a metal disc in the lobe of the ear to make the hole large. As time goes on, they will put in increasingly larger discs so that they have a huge hole with a large disc. This is common in Africa, but has become popular among body piercers. I was going to post a picture of it, but couldn't stand looking at it on my blog. I still keep thinking about his body language, and the feeling it gave me before I even saw his piercings.

2. I was driving to pick up my son after school, and was passing a burger king when a student driver pulled out into traffic right in front of me. I hit my brakes to avoid hitting him. When he realized what he had done, he screeched to a halt over in the bike lane. I cautiously started creeping forward. Seeing that I was moving slower now, he screeched out in front of me and took off. What made me shake my head was that he had a car full of other kids. Who are your kids riding home from school with? These 6 almost didn't make it home.

My husband and I were discussing those ear disc things the other day. I guess they don't realize or don't care that someday when they take them out, they'll have some nasty worm-like earlobe. We wondered if they'll just get their earlobes surgically removed then. Which would be also bizarre, but maybe less nasty than worm-lobes.

actually it's really easy to repair surgically, they remove most of the lobe then suture up the remainder into a "natural" shape.

Getting big holes in your ear lobes is better than *some things* piercers may pierce. Yeeg.
