My New Addiction

I have friends who use different Instant Messenger services. I've never used one before up to this point because I was afraid it would be too addictive. Guess what, I was right! I already had AOL downloaded, and today I also downloaded Yahoo. This is way addictive to be able to talk to friends anytime I see them online.

I know my kids use them sometimes. They probably aren't too happy that I can see when they are online now, but frankly, how long can you talk to someone? So it isn't like I will be talking to them constantly.

I was thinking to myself, why don't we just call people? Well, frankly, I HATE to talk on the phone. I'm not sure why. Well, maybe hate is a strong word, but I am not that fond of talking on the phone. And in some cases, people like my daughter live long distance, so there is the long distance factor. And in the case of the telephone, it is so uncomfortable if there is "dead air", but in IM there isn't the same discomfort.

Hmmm...Actually this might supplant some of my other obsessions....could be a good thing. Or, I will have to build a dumbwaiter so I can haul my food upstairs to my computer because I will be permanently attached.

I am glad to hear someone else hates telephones...in fact, sometimes I will call at times where I know I just have to leave a message rather than talk to the person.

I don't know why, but I would never just pick up the phone and call you and Leo D. (your husband), but I will respond to emails and blogs. :) I haven't done much instant messaging, but maybe it would be fun.

And then there are people who feel like they have to change their entire email address so everyone doesn't know when they 'log on'.
It's hilarious.
