Family Sayings

I wrote before about weird sayings my parents always said. Usually we never knew where these came from. Today after I posted about Lymericks, I decided to do a search on the internet about lymericks to see if I could find any new ones. I found the following poem. When I was growing up, and asked my mother what we were having for dinner, she would often reply, "Soouuup of the Evening, Beauuuutiful Soouuupp". I have said that to my kids often too. Now I know the source of it.

Beautiful Soup
By Lewis Carroll

BEAUTIFUL Soup, so rich and green,
Waiting in a hot tureen!
Who for such dainties would not stoop?
Soup of the evening, beautiful Soup!
Soup of the evening, beautiful Soup!

Beau--ootiful Soo-oop!
Beau--ootiful Soo-oop!
Soo--oop of the e-e-evening!
Beautiful, beautiful Soup!

Beautiful Soup! Who cares for fish,
Game, or any other dish?
Who would not give all else for two
Pennyworth only of beautiful Soup?
Pennyworth only of beautiful Soup?

Beau--ootiful Soo-oop!
Beau--ootiful Soo-oop!
Soo--oop of the e-e-evening!
Beautiful, beauti--FUL SOUP!

I remember she would always say, "There you are my little Chickadee..." Where does that come from? Psychointern

W.C. Fields said that. I also loved one he said...I have to confess I have said it too..."Go away kid, you bother me."
