We got my son delivered safely to the MTC. He was set apart as a missionary on Sunday, so my husband and I were his companions until he entered the MTC. The only draw back was that we had to keep the mission rules too. :) That meant we didn't watch TV or listen to the radio, or go to movies. But we were able to help him find some last items that he needed to buy. The only difficulty was that the night before entering the MTC, he realized he had left his suit in the closet at home in California! Luckily he had thrown his old suit in his suitcase as a back up.
We let him choose what we ate each day. He said he knew he would be eating rice and tacos and beans for the next two years, so he wanted to eat other foods that he wouldn't be able to get. So the night before entering the MTC, we took him and his friend out to eat Indian food. The next day we went to get some lunch before dropping him off at the MTC. He chose to eat In N Out. When we went in, there were 4 other missionaries with their families. As we ate, several more came in. One of the workers there said, "Well, it is Wednesday!" That's the day new missionaries enter the MTC. They were setting up an extra long drive thru line to accomodate all of those last minute lunchers who were entering the MTC that day. For more pictures, check his mission blog. We are anxiously waiting his first email home! I'm sure that he is having some great experiences!

He will be a wonderful missionary!
The adventure starts! It'll be a wonderful experience for both of you. (And how nice that you were able to visit family on the trip.)
I'm so excited for him! I'll add him to my "Missionary Letter List" I write to 5 missionaries right now - I write one letter and make 5 copies. I'll have: "Dear Elders Pickett, Hill, Bludworth, Stradling, Kemsley, and DeVictoria"
(I'm sure he'll be thrilled.)
Where is his blog? Just email it to me if you don't want it published...
I don't mind putting it here, but I didn't really want to link it on the side bar because he uses his full name. It's http://elderjd.blogspot.com
That's so awesome I bet you are just bursting with pride! :D
