I've Grown Accustomed....
At Thanksgiving time, we took my daughter and her friend to San Francisco Korea Town for lunch. I love Korean food, and my family are all beginning to also gain a taste for it. I can't remember what we ordered, but we enjoyed it. My daughter's friend is vegetarian, and was able to easily find a vegetarian dish on the menu. It was kind of late in the day for lunch, and there was only one other person in the restaurant. Normally that would not be a good sign, but we had been to this restaurant before and knew it is good.
When it came time to leave, I was a little slower than the rest of the family leaving the table. As I was walking toward the door, a woman sitting alone in a booth stopped me and asked if she could ask me a question. She asked if we had just walked in off the street, or if someone had told us to come there. I wasn't quite sure what she was asking. She said, "I don't want this to sound wrong, but it's just that we don't usually see white faces in here without a Korean with them." I told her that we love Korean food, and that we had lived in Asia so were comfortable with Asian food. She was so impressed that we would eat their food. I guess it is a little funky for most Americans, and is probably an acquired taste, but our family eats a lot of different ethnic foods. We aren't afraid to try new foods. It was kind of fun to see her reaction to us being there.
I told her that I love Korean food, but I don't know how to make it. She promptly gave me a recipe for Korean barbecued beef! I'm going to try it some time. I think it will turn out pretty good. We have cooked some with sauces we bought at the Asian store, so I know we can do it. Tonight my son did some research on the internet and went to the Asian store and bought ingredients to make his own Kimchi. So far the smells wafting up the stairs smell right! My mouth is watering already!

What?! you'll tell us ABOUT the recipe without posting it?!.....[please?]
Any time that you feel like some Indian food, just shout for a recipe!
Ramana, I would LOVE some Indian recipes! We know how to make Dahl, and Raita. We make chicken vindaloo, and we have made a couple of different cauliflower dishes. What do you think would be good to try next?
I have been into Korean restaurants countless times without a Korean, but never got that question! OK, maybe they were confused by the Chinese who were with me.
