I was looking at the schedule for activities at the Oakland temple visitor's center for the holidays, and noticed there was a concert titled "The burning embers of Christmas", that was scheduled for this weekend. I think they are going to play Christmas music, even though Christmas is past.
It has become a sort of tradition in our neighborhood to have a neighborhood party at my house around Christmas time. We haven't done it every year, but I really wanted to do it this year. But this season has been so hectic that I haven't been able to pull it together. I was thinking that maybe I could do a "burning embers" party. I would like to do it Monday night, while the kids are still on vacation, but I haven't even invited anyone. lol I don't know if we can pull it together that fast or not.
What we typically do is have a talent show. Many of the kids play instruments, so they participate. One year we showed a video of a nativity our kids put on once. As typical for our family, it was a little too humorous, not necessarily the most solemn representation of the Savior's birth. But it's cute to see the kids when they were little, and their "interpretation" of the event. We usually end the evening eating goodies that everyone brings.
I don't know if we can get it together this year or not, but I really want to try. How late in the season can I do it and still call it a Christmas party? lol Maybe I won't call it a Christmas party, I'll just call it a "burning embers" party. :)

I think as long as it's before New Year's day you're good, but you better hurry! :)
