A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words, But Unfortunately I Don't Have a Picture

I've seen a couple of things this week that just made me laugh.  Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera, and I must confess that I would have probably been too embarassed to be seen taking a picture anyway.  Ahh, but the mental images will remain with me.

1.  A man on the bus had a nicely folded tissue stuffed with each end in each of his nostrils.  I am not sure if :
a) his nose was running
b) his nose was bleeding (although I didn't see any blood)
c) He was trying to keep out the pollution
d) He liked the feeling having tissue stuck up his nose.

2.  A man riding an electric scooter must have been cold, because he had a knitted had pulled over his head.  And by "pulled over his head", I mean, it was pulled down over his entire face.  The trouble was, there were no eye holes, and he was driving down the road.  I had to wonder if:
a)  His passenger was calling out directions
b)  He was driving by watching out for shadows in his way
c)  Perhaps there were moth holes through which he could see.
d)  He had x-ray vision

But really, one of the things I love about living in China is that people don't seem to care what you wear, or what you do, and no one blinks twice at things like this.  No one except me, that is.

I don't blame you taking a second glance. How do you cope with the pollution, id it really bad?

Granny mar, the pollution is at times about 20 times the safe limit. I cope by not exercising outdoors. Some Chinese use face masks. I get a little claustrophobic with those. But luckily, the cold season is almost over, so the unfiltered coal burning will stop soon
