What Next?

Okay you guys, I need some more ideas.  :)  Today for our little "activity day" (aka english class) I taught the girls the sign language alphabet.  They learned surprisingly quickly, and could do the alphabet very well after only one hour.  I also taught them some other signs, as well as how to count in sign language.  I had them practice spelling words, then we would guess what word they spelled.  We also watched some online American Sign Language videos to learn some new signs.

So I"m starting to run out of ideas of what to do with them.  I don't like just having an english class.  I would like to do other kinds of activities with them.  So far we have played a couple of board games, watched a couple of movies (in english), learned to embroider, and learned sign language.  Do you have any ideas for me for what we can do in the future?

Could you get hold of a jigsaw of a world map?

Have you tried baking buns or traybakes?

Perhaps you could teach them to cook, using recipes, and have some fun eating experiences.

Teach them how to clean, and have your house cleaned in the process.

How about making greeting cards? Do you have your scrapbooking things there? Or make a pin cushion? Bookmarks? Beaded bracelets? Crocheted scarves to wear with coats?

Could you do a service project?

When I taught English in Poland I sometimes played adverts (commercials) to the students. they critiqued them and came up with their own versions.

Hi D,

Have you ever considered complementing the English classes with a reading club? It is a great way for them to practise their English and learn about Western culture at the same time - as the conversations, in the club, would divert to explanations of how we do things in this side of the globe...

Cheers

I think, Delores, that you're already doing pretty well. I particularly liked Max's suggesion, should their English be up to the level. But then, reading's my think. So's writing and discussion.
