Spirit School

My sister Nene has this theory (sorry to steal this blog topic Nene.  :P) that men who were bad husbands in their life time have to go to "Husband school" in the spirit world after they die.  Her theory is that the reason many men die before their wives is to give them time to learn how to be a good husband so that when she dies, they will be prepared to be a good husband in the hereafter.  I think she might be on to something.

I have read a lot of those near death experience books, and what I have taken away from them is that when we die, we all experience a period of time when we are given the chance to heal from any traumas of this life time.  I have always believed that in addition to healing, we are probably given a chance to learn things we missed when we were alive.  For example, if someone had a bad temper in this life, then in the hereafter, they are taught how to control it.  I don't know if this is true, it's just the doctrine according to Delirious.  But I do think that we are given the chance to review our life....doesn't everyone believe that we will have a life review when we die?....and that we will be given the chance to see where we slipped up.  I've even read accounts of people who said they were shown how their actions affected other people, for good or bad.  None of us would want to see how we hurt others, but it would be nice to see if any of our good behaviors yielded good results.

So what do you think?  Do you buy in to the idea of  "Spirit school"?  In my religion, we do believe that people who have died can be taught the gospel in the spirit world.  But it would be interesting to find out if we are taught other things too.

My Physical Science professor at BYU said that he hoped to be able to teach that subject after this life and said that we'd all have another chance to get a passing grade. :)

I do think you are right that we will continue to learn, and not just the gospel, after we die. We have to be perfect to live with God again and we certainly are not perfect when we die, so there has to be some learning and perfecting in between.

We get our chance to live and learn in this life, but I feel that once we go over, it's too late to do anything else about it. I feel that ghosts are people who are stuck in a groove in this world and can't let go because they don't know how to. At the Resurrection time, God will judge us all and we will go wherever we have to. I also feel that anyone who truly repents of whatever evil they did will get a chance to repent. People with hearts that are too hard are the ones who will ultimately lose the mercy of God but we, not God, decide that. That's my understanding anyway FWIW.

BTW my hubs and in laws believe in karma and that they come back again and have many lives and each time they learn something new. I respect their beliefs and never comment on them. But those are not my beliefs.

You may not have meant to be funny but I want you to know that as I read this I was laughing out loud! I don't think men die first because they were bad husbands but it makes a good joke!

I am a Vedica and as such believe in the inescapable cycle of action and reaction. To take the case of the bad husband, one possibility is that in the next life the atma will take a body of a wife married to a bad husband!
