More School Adventures

The adventures still continue with my son's schooling.  At present, he finds much of it quite humorous.  I guess that is better than hating it.  I'm happy he has this experience, and really feel it is a great adventure for him.

He said many students have strange English names like "Oxygen", and "Nature".  The kids are allowed to pick their own names.  I was talking to my cleaning lady, and I told her about these names.  She didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with them. I explained that they are not traditional English names, and that people might think you are a little crazy if you have a name like that.  I told her I thought the kids should choose more traditional names.  I think everything I said went over her head.....

One interesting part of my son's day happens in the morning when they all go outside to practice "Tai Chi".  He pretends to not be happy about this, but I think deep down he likes it.  I'm glad he is being exposed to more of the Chinese culture this way.  So far he still doesn't have a "Chinese as a second language" teacher, but I'm sure they will get that straightened out.

We know our son has had a good day when he doesn't complain.  Of course he will put on a show, and pretend to not like his school, but he actually doesn't say he hates it.  In his world, that's as good as a compliment.  And he goes pretty willingly every day, so I think it's a success.

Now that Danny is in school, what things are you doing in your free time?

Liz, I kind of wanted to wait it out a week or so and see how this was going to go with him. I have considered seeing if I can sub at his school, but I don't know if they will let me since I don't have a bachelor's degree. So far I've kept busy running errands in the morning. THen in the afternoon I have made bread and taken in a meal to a new mother in our church group, visited with my proselyting chinese friend, napped, spent more time on the computer, and shopped for school supplies. I also prepared my SS lesson for church. :)
