Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium: Wait One Minute!

I have a confession:  I tend to be a nag.  Well, I don't think I'm a really bad nag, but that is definitely part of my personality.  It especially exhibits itself with my children.  When I ask them to do something, I expect them to hop up and obey right then!  I have had to learn to be patient, and give them that extra minute.

I have another confession:  I have played some online games.  Some of these were with other people online, so I have learned that when you are in a game like that, and you suddenly leave, EVERYONE in the game loses, not just you.  So having learned that lesson, I have tried to be patient with my sons who like to play online games.  When I ask them to do something, and they say, "Just a minute", I remind myself that I would feel the same way if I were playing a game, and I give them that extra minute or two to finish up.

I have also learned that if I am pushy, and don't give my children that extra minute or so to do whatever it is that I want them to do, they dig in their heels and it becomes a power struggle.  I have found it is much easier to give them the space and time to react willingly.  For example, when I wake up my son for school in the morning, he isn't always willing to get up.  I  have found that our morning goes much better if I don't nag, and he eventually does get up and get ready, even if it is in the last 30 seconds before we have to leave the house.  You really do catch more flies with honey.

I hope you won't wait a minute before you check out what the other consortium members had to say about this topic!  :)  I'm leaving Shackman on the list for now.  It's my way of using positive thinking in hopes that he will come back to our group!  :)

Give a kid a minute they expect a day - same holds true for my grandkids that live with us. Sigh.

No, I won't.

My sure fire way to get Elly out of bed for school, work or an interview was to grill some bacon and open the doors from the kitchen to her bedroom! It worked every time.

Now that's cunning GM.

If you add on top a regretful call up the stairs - something along the lines of: Oh dear I'm not sure if I've bought/made quite enough.

That's brings 'em running.
