I think that I am a sincere person. As I thought about what that means, it occurred to me that sincerity is really an off shoot of other traits. A sincere person is someone who is honest. You can't be sincere unless you are honest. A sincere person is open with their feelings. You can't be sincere unless you are willing to express your feelings. I do feel that I am an honest person. Part of that is due to my religion, which requires honesty of me. Part of it is just that I am a person who believes in being who I am. I am not a person who puts on a public persona, and then acts differently in private. I think some people would prefer that I put on a public persona. I have a church position that requires me to be a leader, and to deal with many different public and personal situations. I think there are some people who would prefer that I be more refined in my public duties. But I am who I am, and I don't change that for different situations. Being sincere keeps me from acting differently than I normally would, just because the audience changes.
The same holds true for my writing. I say it like it is, and I say what I think. I do try to have tact, but I try to keep my sentiment sincere. And in that way, I think sincerity and integrity are dependent on each other. Being true to one's self is an integral part of true sincerity.
I wonder how sincere the other consortium members are. If you are curious, check out their links below. :)
