Nerves of Steel

Finally my 3rd child has decided to get his driver's license. He just hasn't been interested up until now. We went this morning to the DMV so that he could take the test. He passed, so we let him drive us. I do think it was stressful for him because BOTH parents were in the car giving suggestions. But his stress can't have been any greater than MINE! I told him that there will probably be a worn spot on the passenger side carpet, right where the break SHOULD be! I find myself "breaking" almost the whole time he is driving. lol

Usually I'm pretty easy going about student drivers. I really think that being calm helps them to drive more safely. I try to give calm positive directions. But I have to admit that when my son was careening around a corner at twice the speed he should have been, I found myself yelling, "Slow down!" lol I do think things will go better when there is only one parent in the car. We tend to feed off each other's stress and fear. lol Poor kid, no wonder he waited so long to get his license...

January seems like a bad time to get a driver's licence, what with the snow and ice on the roads.

Vid, where I live in California we don't get snow or ice in the winter. This winter we haven't even gotten any rain! We need rain.

My brother in Melbourne has a young son learning to drive. He is also learning to fly a light aircraft. My brother tells me it is easier to pass a test for the pilots licence than to pass for the road driver licence!!

I always was the one to go with my first 2 kids to help them do their "driving time" when they were taking driver's ed. Then by the next 2 kids I guess my nerves couldn't take it so I made my husband go with them. By the time my 5th one was taking driver's ed, I guess I had my nerves calmed down so I drove with him.

I hate it too. And I have another 30 hours to do with him!
