Sleepless in California

Last night I was really tired and fell asleep early. Good thing, because about midnight the phone rang. It was a church member who wanted to inform me that a woman in our ward was being taken to the hospital. I'm the Relief Society president, and as such, am responsible for the welfare of the women in our congregation. That includes their emotional, spiritual, and physical welfare. Of course I have the whole congregation to draw on for help, but I just deal with the sensitive matters, and in particular with service, and with ordering food for those in need. Anyway, so at midnight, my brain wasn't really working properly. I sat there in a confused state trying to figure out what to do.

I think if I would have been more awake, I would have immediately called the bishop to let him know. But my brain was having problems getting in to gear, and I couldn't decide if I should call him or not. Should I wake him up in the middle of the night? Somewhere along the line, reason stepped in and I called him. I almost laughed when he answered the phone because he sounded as confused and sleepy as I was. lol I told him that I had debated on whether or not to call him in the middle of the night, but that if he wanted to, he could go back to sleep. lol When we said goodbye, he sounded so sleepy that I wasn't sure if he had really understood what I had said to him. :D But this morning I got an email from him telling me he had gone over to the hospital to give a blessing to this woman, and had spoken with her husband again this morning. That made me glad I called, and also glad that he was coherent enough to understand why i called. lol

So after I hung up the phone, I sat there wide awake. So I turned on the computer and checked all of my emails, facebook etc until about 1:30 a.m. It sure was hard to get up this morning....

I feel your pain at not sleeping. Until about 6 months ago, I did not sleep through the night since late 1991. In fact three consecutive hours sleep was considered a good night! It is amazing how the body eventually adjusts. Mind you I am pleased to have found a friend in sleep once more. I hope you manage an undisturbed night tonight.

I never sleep through the night. In a good nights sleep, I will only wake up once. Whenever I wake up, I get up to go to the restroom and I say to myself, "Don't think of anything!" because if I do, that's it, I'm awake for the rest of the night! It's so funny trying to keep my mind blank. :0P

Since I stopped taking the pain killers and the sleeping tablet after my surgery, I have not really been sleeping the way I used to before the surgery. But that is due to the physical discomfort and my not being allowed to turn on the operated side, which is my favourite. When I wake up to adjust my position, I recite a mantra and in a few minutes, I am fast asleep again. This happens two/three times every night. I hope that it will stop after I am allowed to resume my normal life in two/three weeks time.

Unable to sleep due to mental agitation is different but luckily, I have not been bothered with that of late.

I haven't slept through the night in nearly 23 years. I am always awake for a 2-3 hour period, plus I wake up a lot of other times, too. So not fun.
