Two Thumbs UP!

Just a word of congratulations to the creators of Sesame Street for making this announcement. Here is the report from NPR:

"This week, an online petition concerning Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie started making the rounds. The Facebook petition asked that Sesame Street allow the two male Muppets, who share a house and a bedroom, to be married on the show.

"We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful," the petition read. "Only that they allow Bert & Ernie to marry or even add a transgender character to the show. It can be done in a tasteful way."

The petition has 5,767 signatures so far and lots of media attention, including a piece from the Christian Science Monitor, which examined if they could even get married where they live. (They live in New York, the paper determined, so yes, they could.)

But the makers of Sesame Street, The Sesame Workshop, issued a statement on their own Facebook page today, quashing the possibility:

Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves.
Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets™ do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation."

My opinion is that preschool children shouldn't even have to think about sexual orientation. The gay agenda is intended to start brain-washing at a young age, but sexual matters shouldn't even be discussed until a child is old enough to accept them. I, for one, wouldn't want my pre-schoolers to be subjected to this, and would probably have turned off the television if this were introduced through Sesame Street. Two thumbs up to the producers for not caving in to the gay agenda.

It is sad when a no-brainer decision that is right should generate such a furor. But it is good to praise them for doing something sensible.

It's sad that the gay community is so desperate to publicize their issues that they have to resort to attacking children's shows.

It's truly sad that as these things "progress" we will lose more and more programming time to certain immoral agendas. Eventually, we may even reach a time when we can't let our kids watch TV anymore. And don't watch it ourselves. Those in power in the entertainment business need to find out what "normal" people are really like since they don't live in the same world we do!
