Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium: Prepare

I'm late in posting, but never fear, I'm all over this topic! :)

In our religion, we have a snippet of a scripture that says, "...but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear." (D&C 38:30) If you think about it, that scripture says it all. Really, truly, when it comes down to it, we aren't so much afraid of what might come, unless we are unprepared.
In connection with this, as I have mentioned before, in our church we are encouraged to have a year supply of food. I strongly believe this is necessary for everyone, no matter their economic status. None of us know when we will lose our job. None of us know when natural disaster might strike, and make it difficult for food trucks to bring food in to the city. None of us know if we will have some illness or injury that will make us unable to work for a time. In that event, having a supply of food can help alleviate the burden.
Being prepared is essential to self-reliance. There are many facets of preparedness, including: spiritual, financial, physical, educational and emotional. You can't wait until you need a job to gain the education. You can't wait until you have an illness to exercise and become physically fit. You can't wait until you are in desperate need to develop faith in God, because developing faith takes time. And if you wait until you are emotionally unstable to develop good mental health, you will surely be wanting. When we are prepared to be self reliant, we can not only take care of our own needs, but we are in a position to help others.
There are areas in which I need to prepare better. Focusing on those needs and making it a way of life is part of provident living. And being prepared truly does alleviate fear of the future!
Now go check out what the other consortium members have to say about this issue!

It is wonderful to have such logical spiritual maxims to rely on to be practical.
