Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium: Respect For Life

Welcome to our "Loose Bloggers Consortium", where today's topic is "Respect for life". Today's topic was chosen by Conrad.

I'm going to be very bold in this topic, and talk about my abhorence of abortion. Life, in any form, is a beautiful miracle that should be respected. But human life is the most sacred in my opinion. In my religion, we believe that we existed before we were born, as spirit children of God. This fact alone makes the human spirit divine, and sacred.

One of our purposes in coming to mortality was to gain a physical body. Without a body, there were many things we couldn't learn as spirits. We couldn't learn the difference between pleasure and pain. We couldn't learn the difference between health and sickness. We couldn't enjoy sweet and sour, hot and cold, nor the joy and trials of having children. We believe that God has a physical, perfected body. If he didn't, how would he be all knowing? How could he know the things that we have learned by obtaining a body? Our gaining a physical body was essential to our becoming more like him.

So these bodies that we as parents create, are sacred tabernacles for those spirits waiting to be born. If we take that life, we take away the opportunity for that body to house the spirit that was waiting to inhabit it. The parenting of offspring is really a miracle, and a god-given privilege. To create, then destroy that magnificent creation before it has a chance to reach it's maximum potential, is surely offensive in the sight of God. Abortion should never be casually looked at as an alternative to birth control. There are other more appropriate responses to unplanned pregnancies, such as adoption. There are many parents waiting for a child to adopt. They yearn to have that sacred ability to create life, but are unable. They appreciate how special that gift would be. Let us teach our children that life, in any form is a miracle, but that the creation of human life especially is a god-given privilege, and should never be wasted for personal convenience.

"Any country that accepts abortion, is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what it wants." Mother Teresa

Oops, I meant to wait to publish this. Sorry!

Delirious, that comes from the heart and I admire you for stating what you believe to be right. As in all controversial subjects, there are different perceptives and I am neutral on this. There are occasions when it is a better alternative than losing two lives, for instance.

Beautifully put! If you can make the life then you must make sure that you nourish and cherish it!

But what happens to a woman who is impregnated through violence--in a gang rape case...should she not be given the choice of aborting this life made in violence. I don't know.

In every other case I am clear that life should not be aborted. If you don't want the child there are many who are aching to bring up a kid and who can't for whatever reason. Give the child to them and forget the nine months --if you can that is--and get on with your life.

You can only imagine the pain that a woman goes through when she is unable to conceive and have a child.

Our church says abortion is okay if the woman was raped or if her life is endangered. Then it is her choice.

Padmum, that is a hard call about the rape case. I do know there are "day after" pills that prevent you from becoming pregnant. That is not abortion, and I wouldn't be against something like that. But once that life is created, unless the life of the mother is in danger, I feel they should choose other options.

I am very late with my visit this time. I arrived at Elly's on Friday and have been busy since then.

Abortion is a difficult subject. I personally would never want to abort a baby, but then I have never been face to face with the issue. Adoption is not an easy option either. Just look at the heartache that goes with it. It can be tougher than bereavement knowing your child is out there somewhere, yet you will never see them growing up.
