Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium: Universe

I seem to remember a kids movie where the main character carried the universe around in their pocket. I'm thinking that I either must not have seen the movie, or I didn't pay attention, because that never made sense to me. But the universe is something that is so large, that for me to really grasp the size of it is similar to trying to comprehend the amount of money in 1 trillion dollars. It's more than my mind can grasp.

When I was younger, I took a communications class at the local college in St. George, Utah, and as part of our class, we each had to prepare a presentation, and teach something to the class. One of the students in the class taught us about black holes. While I didn't understand all of the technical aspects of his presentation, I did get a feel for the immensity of space, and the incredible organization of this universe. It is so large, that we can't really explore it in the way we would like. We can send scientists in to the rain forest to collect specimens. We can send biologists in to the ocean to study sea life. But we can only go so far when exploring space. Even if we send out robots to gather data for us, we probably won't be alive when they finally come back. Maybe if we develop some kind of Star Trek "warp" power, we could really do some serious study of space. But at present, we are confined to closer moons and planets.

Is there life on other planets? My bet is yes. I don't believe in the "big bang" theory, and from my understanding, it is finding less favor with scientists today. I believe in "intelligent design", and that God was that designer. I don't see how a person could believe in the big bang theory, and also believe that there is life on other planets. The odds of everything falling correctly in to place on this planet, as put forth in the big bang theory, are very small. But the chances of that happening again on a different planet in the same universe must be pretty much non-existant. The only explanation for their to be life on other planets is that there is a God who designed it all.

We have seen different spacecrafts launched in to space carrying cameras and robots to study different planet such as saturn. When I think about how this kind of technology has increased already in my lifetime, I am excited to think about what my kids will learn by the time they are my age. Space really is the "last frontier". I can't wait to learn more about it, but for now, "Live long and prosper." :)

Now go check out what the other consortium members have to say about this issue!

I know why I didn't enjoy the topic this week... I am not into science fiction or other worlds. This one is difficult enough for me to cope with on a daily basis.

Well said. May the force be with you...

I am willing to bet that by the time our grand children become adults, provided of course we do not kill ourselves off before that, science and philosophy would have merged and the mysteries resolved. So, live long and prosper, resonates with me.
