Balding

Last week I noticed a thin spot in Sally's fur. I wondered if I had clipped it too short in that spot when I groomed her in December. I also wondered if my neighbor's pulling and thinning her hair had left those spots. About a week later I noticed that she had even more thinning spots. My neighbor and I talked about all of the possible reasons. I wondered if she was allergic to the soap I used to wash the blanket she lays on. But the balding spots weren't in the areas where she lays. I decided to give her a flea medicine treatment so that if it was fleas, I could catch it early. But the weird thing was that her skin looked healthy, and there were no red spots. I decided to give it a few days. Finally she lost so much hair that I decided to take her to the vet. I was pretty sure that I knew what was causing it. The vet did agree with me that it is probably thyroid problems. He did a blood test, and will start her on thyroid medicine as soon as we get the results. In the mean time I'm thinking of making her a little jacket to wear, not so much for the cold, but so that people don't see her and think she has mange. lol
