Harry Potter Happiness

I know that most theaters will be showing a midnight showing of Harry Potter, but I won't be going. I actually have gone to the midnight showing in years past, but that was when I didn't teach seminary at 6:30 in the morning. :) And I think most of those movies came out in the summer, when my kids didn't have school. I learned from experience that I'm just too tired that time of night to enjoy the movie. I'm planning to wait until the next day when I can enjoy it.

I was walking out of Walmart today when I overheard a conversation about the Harry Potter movie. Two older ladies were talking, and one told the other that her daughter won't let her son go to see Harry Potter. She mentioned that he could go to a different movie, but not Harry Potter because it has the "devil" in it. I was sad for that child whose mother really doesn't know what Harry Potter is about. While there is "good and evil" in the Harry Potter movies, the "devil" is absent. And while it does talk about witchcraft and wizardry, none of it would actually work if your child tried to duplicate it in real life. It's not a "wicken" movie, and it's not a devil worship movie. What it is, is a story about the triumph of good over evil. It is a story about a boy who stays true to what he knows is right, even when all things fight against him. That's a lesson I want my kids to learn.

I didn't read the books again in preparation for this movie. That could work against me, but it could also be like watching a movie you haven't seen in a long time, which you have forgotten the ending to. :) I know the ending, but I've kind of forgotten the in between stuff. But you can rest assured that I'll be relishing every second of the movie!

Hi D!

As you know, I don't like Harry Potter; however I agree with you when you say that there is not devil in it. In fact, parents should let their kids watch it so they can learn about fighting evil and being good.

As for the witchcraft in it: well, I must say it works in real life (if a gifted one learns the proper tools and has the discipline for it) but it is not for everyone and I doubt that a school like Harry's would have such a high rate of witches in real life (since many things are involved - for once, you have to have the gift).

Now, Harry has grown a lot, hasn't him? Amazing...

Cheers

I won't be going to the midnight showing either since I have to work the next day but that's okay, I'm like you I'm more likely to enjoy it when I'm more awake LOL.

I told my husband we should go Monday or Tuesday during the day next week. Probably won't be as crowded. I love Harry Potter and love anything that is a fight between good and evil.

I love Harry Potter, too, and am excited for the movie, but I will wait until I can go calmly. I'm patient. :0)
