Prank Phone Calls

My 12 year old confessed to me today that he and a friend made some prank phone calls using his friend's cell phone. :/ I'm not sure why, but they decided to call "The General". You know...."Call 1=800 General now!" So they did. They also called a couple of other numbers they remembered from the catchy ads. I can't remember the one they called, but what they said to the person on the other end of the phone was, "It's my money and I want it now!" You've probably heard that one before. I was not happy, and let him know. But it did remind me of a couple of incidents in my life.

Incident one: When I was a young teenager, I answered the phone one day and the caller said what I thought was, "I like your garage". I said, "What?" He repeated, "I like your garage." I said, "You like my garage?" He said, "Yea, don't you know what that is?" I said, "I guess not." He said, "Never mind." and hung up. Looking back, I think that was the best way to handle it! lol

Incident two: When my two oldest kids were little, like 5 and 3, they got in to some trouble with my phone. I had a new baby, and I guess I fell asleep easily during the day. While I was having my little cat naps, unbeknown to me, my kids were playing with the phone. It wasn't until I got my phone bill that I realized what was going on. I had about 16 phone calls to the same number in Delta, Utah. I couldn't understand why there would be so many calls to that number, so I called the number to find out what it was. The number was: 1-234-5678. I got an answering machine message that was long. Verrrry long. The man on the recording was saying things like, "I can see some nice clouds in the sky, and the sun is shining. The breeze is blowing and the birds are singing. Does your mother know where you are? I have a dog, do you like dogs? You probably shouldn't be playing on the phone." This message went on for quite some time, but I didn't listen to the whole thing, obviously. I think those calls ended up costing us about $30!

I told my 12 year old that last story. His response was, "Cool! I should call that number!" I said, "Well, the big difference is that when your brother and sister did that they were like 3 and 5. You are 12, so I would make you pay for them." :P

I remember one time Inklings and I and somebody else were not "making" prank calls, but "answering" them in a prank way. This was when Dad was a bishop for the 2nd time. Inklings and I thought it would be quite funny to answer the phone like:

1) (Family name) Maternity Ward, we deliver....
2) (Family name) Mortuary, you stab em' we slab 'em...

I can't remember any more, but we had a bunch of them. Anyway, someone called, I was dared to answer the phone that way, so I used #2. It was someone from church calling for Dad. And yes, they made it a point to tell Dad later when they talked to him, and I got a severe talking to. :0+
