Fear the Beard

I have a confession. Until last night, I had never watched the Giants play baseball. lol It's not that I don't like baseball, I actually enjoy it. I just have never been really that much in to sports. But since it was the world series, my husband had the game on television. I was introduced to the fact that many players on the SF team have beards. Erm.....UGLY beards. In fact, it took me a few minutes to figure out why in the world they would want those ugly beards. People in the stands were wearing fake beards, and carrying signs that said, "Fear the Beard". That's when I finally understood. I was reminded of the natives in the islands who paint their faces so that they will scare their enemy in battle. As I looked at those beards, I wasn't so much scared as distracted. And what a perfect distraction! The beards are so weird that they are mesmerizing! You can't stop looking at their ugliness! That tiny little distraction is all it takes on the part of the pitcher to get the batter to slip up. It worked for game one anyway. Let's see if the power of the beard can carry them through to the end!

I can't figure out how to copy pictures to my daughter's Mac, so I'm giving you a link to a picture instead. :)

It probably started out as one guy who didn't want to shave and they turned it into a sort of "good luck charm". :0+

maybe it's a luck thing too - like they will have better luck if they don't shave - baseball players are pretty superstitious

Ramana, I'm not against beards, but for some reason, these beards did not look good to me. I think I didn't post the right picture. There is a pitcher for the Giants whose beard is particularly curly and black. I don't know why, but it just wasn't my thing. lol
