Need Blog Advice

I got an email from a Christian website called "Christian.com" The editor asked if I would like to collaborate with her and have my blog linked to their website. I wanted to ask your advice about this.

I do have some reservations. But first of all I should say that I am happy that a Christian website acknowledges that I'm Christian, therefore has invited me to participate. But I have to admit that I'm really tired of the rabid attacks by some Christians on my blog. If I collaborate with them, am I going to wind up with hundreds of "Rickb"s, and "Livingswords" leaving comments telling me I'm going to hell and that I don't worship the true Jesus? While I do want to provide an atmosphere for others to learn what we really believe, I am really hesitant to open myself up to possibly hundreds of similar attacks. I sort of feel like I would be better off joining more "mormon blogs" groups. I have joined a couple of those groups, but I haven't really seen visitors coming because of their referrals.

Maybe I'm being too much of a wimp, but I really don't want contention. And I feel like I end up having the same discussions over and over each time a new "no repentance necessary-Christian" stops by my blog. I wouldn't mind if they were civil, but they are usually spiteful and angry. I don't know, do other non-lds Christians get the same kinds of attacks I do?

I first started my religion blog because of all of the misinformation that is being perpetuated by many anti-mormons. It really bothered me that people read their blogs and assume everything they say is true about our religion. I wanted a chance to give accurate information for those who are really seeking the truth. I also wanted a chance to bear my own testimony about our beliefs. I guess I should have expected that some would come to my blog to argue, but I have to admit that I have been surprised at the level of non-christlike behavior coming from Christians.

Anyway, I've rambled enough; what do you think about me joining their site?

It looks suspicious. They are fishing for names and email addresses.

I'd say you will probably get more contention, like you say. Some people welcome debate and discussion, regardless of the attitude with which it is delivered. I know that you prefer rational discussion over "you're going to hell and I hate you," discussion.
I guess if your religion blog were your life, and it was all you had to do from the time you woke to the time you went to bed, opening up to a wider audience and gaining more exposure might be a good thing. However, I think you're fine without them.
Plus, Looney has a point. I think they might have found you doing some very basic searches for common Christian keywords, and all they are really after is personal information.
We could be wrong, but it's hard to say. Did you Google them to see what other people have to say about their site?

That's a good idea to Google them. I did go to the site, and I have to admit that to me it looked like a fledgling site. I actually got an email from the editor, and she said she had seen my blog and was interested in collaborating. But frankly, I bet she didn't really pay much attention to what I wrote. I bet she saw "Rejoice in Christ", and didn't read enough to see that I am LDS. Won't she be surprised when she finds out? lol I think you are right though, I think I'll pass this up, just from the point of not wanting to have so many readers it takes over my life!

Don't know what to say about this, but I did have an epiphany about those attacking you. Simply ask them to try to communicate what they believe without telling you where they think you are wrong. Ask them to only tell how they are right. They should find out fairly quickly that there is alot we do agree on, even though we have our differences. I think if the focus becomes what is right instead of what is wrong, you will have (hopefully) fewer attacks.... maybe.

If I were you, I would not participate. It may well end up with you having to defend yourself and your religion, and I don't think that it is worth the trouble.

FYI - I think the Oriental comment above is one of those porn websites, check it out. It looks like the ones that leave comments on mine.

I also wondered if they wanted you to join because they WANTED to come and argue with you. Maybe they saw some of the detrimental (sp?) comments. I think it's a good idea to check them out thoroughly. I also agree with Renaissance Man that this blog isn't your whole life, so you really don't have to get that involved if you don't want to.

I'd stay away from being linked to anyone elses site---but that is just the way I am.
