Happy Mother's Day 2010
My mother doesn't read blogs, in fact she doesn't even have the internet in her home. So I don't write this post for her to read, but just for my own observance of Mother's Day. I chose this particular picture of her because it is "classic Mom". My mother loves to tell tall tales. This is a picture of her telling her tall tales at a family reunion. Let me share one of them with you.
She said that her grandmother loved hot dogs. She would eat them whenever she could. She had false teeth, but was still able to eat them. One day she was getting water from the well when her false teeth dropped down in to the well. She didn't know what she was going to do! Finally she got an idea. She tied a hot dog to a string, and lowered it in to the well. Sure enough, those teeth chomped on to that hot dog, and she lifted them out of the well and popped them in her mouth! Okay, maybe I don't do my mother's tall tales justice. lol
I feel very blessed to have her for my mother. Something my father in law once said was very true to who my mother is. She was visiting us, and we went to my father in law's house. As we were sitting visiting, my father in law said to her, "You have a very calm energy about you. I wish I had that same calm peace." That pretty much sums up the kind of mother that I have. Even when she disciplined, it was controlled but powerful. She created a very peaceful environment where we were truly sheltered from the storms of the world. Only now as an adult do I realize how idyllic my childhood was, and how sheltered I was from the world. She was a good mother, and set a good example for us all! She continues to set a strong example of how to weather trials, and how to perservere. We children are very blessed!
