Time to Get Out of Dodge City

Yesterday when I went to pick my son up at his High school, he told me that there were some Latinos gathering in the parking lot, and he thought there was going to be a fight. I asked him why they wanted to fight. He said that the opposing latino gang had broken out the window of someone's car. I said, "If I see a security guard, I'm going to send them over that way." My son got really upset and told me not to do anything. He said, "I'm just not going to tell you anything anymore. I know the gang signs and gang colors, but you don't. I'm not going to tell you when I see things because you will try to get involved." I told him that I would rather tell a security guard than see some kid killed in a gang fight. I was determined that if I saw a security guard, I would just tell them to go see what was going on. But true to this High school, I didn't see ANY security, ANYWHERE!

Today when I took my son to school, I noticed a police car parked on the street next to the school. Then I noticed increased security in the parking lot. Then I heard one teacher tell a kid that the gates by the gym were locked, so he would have to enter the school through other gates. I didn't think much about it until I came home and read on Facebook that one of the students texted her Mom and told her the school was on lock down because of ANOTHER shooting!! Okay, I just checked Facebook again, and someone else said she specifically asked a policeman what was going on, and he said there was a "suspicious person" on the grounds. She also asked a security guard, and she said it was a "drill". Hmmm..... I wonder when I will find out what actually happened. The most frustrating part of this is that a few minutes ago I got a computer generated telephone call from the school. I was interested to see what they had to say. The call said, "This is to inform you that today is not an early release day." I'll probably hear the details about this lock down from them TOMORROW. grrrrrr

Like I said, it's time to get out of Dodge city....

I think I might have called the police and given them an anonymous tip when I got home. :0)

that is crazy, this may be extreme but here in ABQ we have a christian charter school, I've always thought that if I lived here long enough for my kids to go to school that is where I would send them, better there than at a public school these days - maybe they have one there where you are?

They do have a charter school here, and they do allow us to use a voucher, so I may consider that when my youngest gets high school age. They also have an arts high school, and a medical high school. But what I don't like about them is that they don't give D's. So if you get below a C-, it's a failing grade. The main problem with the Christian schools here is that they are expensive.
