My question is, what is it about a snuggie that is any better than any of these below? Now that we have one, I don't think I see the advantage.

I think it's just the hype.
Oh my gosh, I forgot that "What's the Hype?" is the title of your blog. Ok, so let me rephrase that and say, it's kind of like a gadget that people like to collect. Then when they use it they can tell someone how "wonderful" it is. But if you're that cold, why not just buy an electric blanket to cover up with while you watch tv?
As far as I can tell, Snuggie is the worst brand but they've marketed better than the others. I found this review several months ago and agreed 100% with it:

They have to keep making things a little different to convince you that you need it and to get more money out of you. :0)
