Computer Resurrection

So my computer died this week, and my husband's coworker, who works with the computers at their company offered to take a look at it. The diagnosis was that the mother board was fried. Waaaaaa! My husband called and told me how much it would cost to fix it. I mentioned that to my son and he said, "No way! I can fix that!" And he did. It sure is nice to have at least one technologically capable family member. He said he has replaced his computer's mother board a couple of times as well as many other parts.

When he was in High school, he got straight A's, so we wanted to reward him. We have a weird system in our family of rewarding grades. We don't give allowance, but we do pay for A's. We don't pay for any other grades. We have family members who pay a certain amount for A's, a certain amount for B's, C's, D's etc. But we feel that A's take a certain amount of effort, and the other grades don't, so we only pay for A's. If they want the money, they have to put forth the effort. But straight A's gets a bonus. So for my son's bonus, we told him he could build his own computer. I took him to the store and let him pick out the parts, then he assembled his computer. He still uses that computer today, some 4 or 5 years later. I think that bonus not only was nice for him, but nice for me because he learned how computers are put together, and can now fix mine when needed! Boy I'm going to miss that when he leaves for his mission in Feb.!

We always only paid for A's too. And gave bonuses for straight A's.

I think he should go to college to go into some kind of computer work when he gets home from his mission.

He has chosen Electrical engineering as his major. That will be good for him!

I also pay for A's, any of my grandkids that gets A's get $5.00 for each one, and a streight A will get a few bucks more, costs me a bunch of money each time that the grades come out....even the College kids get the same treatment...love the blogs....Lonehawk

We never paid for A's, but made it clear that A's would pay for themselves later--with scholarships! It's not that we didn't want to encourage good grades, just didn't have much money. Our kids all have their own jobs, too. Perhaps if we had paid, maybe our oldest....

plus those are good skills to have throughout his life - he can always find a use for those, I can't believe he'll be going on a mission soon, where does the time go?
