Live Well

In the past couple of weeks I have noticed a woman that I never paid much attention to before. Every morning she and her daughter run to school. Yes, run. Her daughter is probably about 9 years old, but she runs like a pro. They don't actually live in the school boundaries. It's probably 1 mile from their house to the school. When I think about it, that isn't really that far, but when I see that little girl running, it just surprises me. But then the mother does something that is very noteworthy. On her way home, she stops and collects trash along the road. It takes her quite awhile to get back home in the morning because she is stopping to pick up trash. She usually fills a couple of plastic grocery sacks each day. It's a little thing, but I'm impressed that she makes the effort. Not only is she teaching her daughter healthy exercise habits, and doing so by example, but she is helping to clean up her world. It makes me think twice about what I'm teaching my children; or in this case, what I'm neglecting to teach them.

okay while I think this is all wonderful and great I can't help wondering how the little girl smells for the rest of the day after running to school :S

Hey D!

I agree with Amber: doesn't the little girl sweat? I hope she takes some deodorant to school.

But I like the idea of the mom picking up garbage, though: very environment oriented and responsible (which goes to show that people, in general, do not give a damn about it, since they throw litter on the floor).

I am sure you are teaching your kids what you are supposed to teach, and they are just fine! :D

Cheers
