This is advertising theory. In practice, what happens is something totally different from what the pundits talk about. If all iconography had worked, Osama should be ruling the world today. Yes, Osama, not Obama. More t-shirts and other eye catching items with Osama abound today around the world than any other icon ever, in the history of mankind.

The real danger in modern advertising is in the subliminal messages one is subject to all the time. It requires a completely different approach and a book can be written about it.
