Gun Control

I received an email this week that was in favor of less gun control. I personally believe in the second ammendment, which is the right to keep and bear arms. I believe that our founding fathers felt this was essential to maintaining a democracy. I have a friend who has been a gun dealer in the past, and who enjoys hunting and shooting for pleasure. I forwarded the email to him.

This morning I received an email in return. He simply said, "Have you tried to buy a bullet lately....none at any price for handguns." THAT, my friends, is how people control guns without having to pass any laws!

I have friends who think all guns should be banned. They blame the possession of guns as the reason for why we have so much crime. But I have news for them. Criminals will get guns from other countries. If guns are banned in the United States, then criminals will be the only ones who own them, albeit illegally.

I had another thought about this. So let's assume that all guns are banned, and no criminals have guns either. What will life be like then? Let me give you a glimpse. One day, while I was living in Beijing, I was driving down the street to pick up my son from preschool. I passed a glass building that was some sort of shop. Two men were outside arguing. As I drove past, I noticed that one of the men was holding a large cleaver behind his back. Yes, China has gun control. No, it doesn't elminate crime.

This is probably one of the best essays on the subject you will find.

My husband talked to my gun dealer friend more. He said the reason that you can't buy bullets is because people are buying them as fast as they can BEFORE they become outlawed!
