Youth Conference

My son just got back from a regional youth conference. It was held at the interstake center in Oakland. (by the temple) They asked each kid to get donations of canned food to give to the local food bank. The youth were able to gather 21,000 lbs of cans. In addition to the food drive, they had workshops, such as one about the "do's and don'ts of dating" with a former Miss California teaching it, a fireside with a guest speaker who is LDS and is an astronaut, and a youth dance. My son has been pretty tight lipped about his experience, but judging from what others have told me, I think he had a good time.

A girl I know used to be Miss California a few years back... several years back. I guess I'm older than I'd like to admit. How many cans is 21,000 lbs? We donated some to help them out!
