I don't know why I wanted to show this, but here it is.
You may remember this picture that I posted some time back.
What I didn't tell you is that my zoom lens isn't as good as I would like. My old camera had much better zoom. The lens I want costs over $600. So for now, this is how I take the picture, then I cut the section that I want enlarged. Here is the original.

Your zoom might not be good, but your camera's pic quality is high, since you can enlarge it with out the picture loosing clarity.

I'm like you - i'm a zoom junkie, it's great that your photo program works so well that you can blow it up and zoom in more though! that's great!
I do this, too, not so much for zoom but for better composition. Some photographers change a lot more than cropping. They might change contrast, brightness, gamma, color balance -- whatever they can.
