Seven Things

I guess that if I go in order, I am borrowing this post from Nene, who borrowed from Inklings, who borrowed from Looney. :P

Seven Things about Me.

1. I had my tonsils out at the same time my Dad had his out. We shared a hospital room. That must have worked fairly well for him because I remember that I was about 7, and recovered much faster than him so was spending my time raising or lowering his bed as needed, or changing the channel on the television. (I'm assuming there was no remote). It can't have been all that comfortable for him though because I was, afterall, 7 and I'm sure I made noise.

2. When I was a teenager in High school, I had a boyfriend who taught me martial arts. It was a Chinese style, Shao Lin Dao. (hmm...that romanization doesn't look right). I spent about 2 years studying, but then went on a mission and wasn't able to devote much time to it so forgot the long forms I had learned. I learned all of my material for black belt, (the school he learned from used the belt system since most Americans like belts) but because I didn't feel I measured up to what I thought a black belt was, I never tested. Looking back, I still think that was a wise decision. We have too many black belts out there walking around who I think really shouldn't be.

3. I can wave my second toe on both feet without moving the other toes. (sorry, I hope you weren't in the middle of swallowing food right then)

4. When I was about 3, I got trapped inside an old, unplugged refrigerator. I have to admit that I did the trapping myself. I worked really hard to get the door to shut, but then was dismayed when I couldn't open it again. My mother sent all of the kids in every direction in the neighborhood looking for me. Then as she passed the refrigerator, the spirit prompted her to open it. I lay there asleep, and wringing wet. She thought I was dead until she picked me up and heard me cry.

5. I attend the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers meetings. I am in the process of getting my papers ready to turn in for official membership. My mother said that I have about 23 ancestors on her side of the family alone, who were pioneers that crossed the plains. I know there are many on my father's side as well. I guess that makes me "dyed in the wool" Mormon. :)

6. I have climbed the Great Wall. Believe me when I tell you it really is a climb. In some places, it is so steep it reminds me more of a slide. When we went, we took our three (one hadn't been born yet) children with us. Our middle child was quite hyperactive, and got away from us. He ran like a mountain goat up the wall. There was no way on this good green earth that I could catch him. Luckily, one of my husband's employees, a young healthy single man, took off after him and was able to corral him. Hmmm...come to think of it, he later helped carry one of my children when we hiked to Delicate Arch in Utah years later. I wish Vista liked my scanner, I would post one of my own pictures. But since it doesn't, here is one for you to see the steepness. It comes from this site.

7. I ran cross country in high school. I can maybe run from here to the mail box now. It would help if it didn't feel like I am carrying a 50 pound pack on my back. Oh wait, I sort of am. :S
