When I Am Gone

I know this might seem like an extremely morbid post, but I love poetry, and I found a couple of really beautiful poems about death. I told my husband I would like one of these on my tombstone. :) Death doesn't really frighten me, so these to me are just beautiful sentiment.

No Funeral Gloom
by Ellen Terry

No funeral gloom, my dears
when I am gone,
Corpse-gazings, tears,
black raiment, graveyard grimness.
Think of me as withdrawn
into the dimness,
Yours still, you mine.
Remember all the best of our
past moments and forget the rest,
And so to where I wait
come gently. on.

Walk Slowly
By Adelaide Love

If you should go before me, dear, walk slowly
Down the ways of death, well-worn and wide,
For I would want to over take you quickly
And seek the journey's ending by your side.

I would be so forlorn not to descry you
Down some shining high road when I came;
Walk slowly, dear, and often look behind you
And pause to hear if someone calls your name.

There's a Great Big Sea song titled The Night That Patty Murphy Died. For some reason this post reminded me of it, even though it's a drinking song. Click the link for the lyrics, they're quite funny.

Sorry we weren't here yesterday. I must have either been at church or picking Ryan up at the airport. We do plan on going to the reunion in a couple of weeks, so we will see you there. We would love for you to stop by when you come to get Teresa. I am guessing she gets back in August? See you in Fallon.

Someone sent me one I like, but I heard from someone else it is only part of the poem.

It seemeth such a little way across the strange country, the Beyond,
For it has grown to be the home of those whom I am so fond.
And so, for me, there is no death.
'Tis merely crossing with abated breath a little strip of sea,
to find one's loved ones waiting on the shore,
more beautiful, more precious, than before.
-Ella Wheeler Wilcox

I have tried and tried to find the entire poem, but haven't been able to.

Hey D!

I don't fear death either. To me it is like going back Home, and nothing more than that.

These poems are beautiful indeed, specially "Walk Slowly".
