Guardian Angel

Last August, after discovering that he had cancer, and it had spread to his lungs, we had to put our dog Tommy down. We had him for 12 years, and for most of that time, he was alone at home with me while the family was away at school and work. Being part shepherd he really did have a shepherd view of the world, so kept his eye out for me during the day. If we went walking, I would let him off the leash and he would run ahead, but would always turn around to make sure I was coming. He was a very intelligent dog, and understood much of what we said. I just wanted to introduce you to him a little before I tell you of a dream I had the other night.

I dreamed I was traveling in Utah by myself, and at night I had no place to stay, so had to sleep in my car. I was a little nervous about that, but had no choice, so leaned back in the driver's seat and slept. Sometime in the middle of the night, (don't ask me why I know it was 3 am...that's just the way my dreams go. :) I woke up and looked outside my car. On the ground, right next to my car door, was the spirit of my dog, lying asleep keeping watch over me.

I don't remember if there was any more to the dream, and I think I might have actually woken up then. But I wondered to myself if even in death he does check in on me every once in awhile.

That was a cool dream! Maybe God does use our past pets as guardian angels for us. I mean, the human spirits are probably busy doing other things so the animal ones could come more often. Thanks for sharing.

After we had to put our dog Harriett down I used to "feel" her sometimes when I was at home by myself, or I would go walk down the hall and think I saw her only to remember she wasn't there anymore. It was comforting to me though to just feel like she was stopping by to let me know she was okay and still loved us. Rich said he had the same experiences at the time too. I really believe that our pets are part of our family and that they will be with us in heaven too.

What a cool dream! I love dreams like that have meaning to them.
