Life Changing Books

Have you ever read a book that changed the way you look at the world? I have many books on my list: "Books that have dramatically impacted my life". One of the books that has changed the way I have looked at the world is "The Ugly American". Elie Wiesel's "Night" also greatly impacted me. Some books are good, and enjoyable, but really don't change the way you think. I have read many, many good books, but not many are life changing. Recently I have been reading a book by Gavin Debecker called "The Gift of Fear". This is one of those life changing books that has really changed the way I look at the world. I highly recommend it to anyone, but especially single women.

One of the things that has really made me think from this book was a story he related about a psychiatry patient. The patient said to the doctor, "Lately I've noticed that every night I wait until my wife goes to sleep before I go to bed. I wait downstairs until she goes to sleep. If I go upstairs and she is still awake, I stay in the bathroom until she falls asleep. Do you think I could be unconsciously trying to avoid having sex with her? The doctor said, "What is so unconscious about that?". It really hit home to me that we know things about ourselves and our lives that we sometimes try to ignore, but deep down we do know the truth. For example, I think most women who go through an unexpected divorce could, if you questioned them, give you signs of the impending divorce long before it happened. But if you asked them earlier on, when they were going through it, they would probably tell you everything was okay in their marriage. Sometimes we choose to ignore the truth in our lives.

Well, I'm not a paid employee of Gavin Debecker, lol, but I hope you will check out this book. I don't want this for you to be entertained, but for your life to be changed like mine has been.

One of my life-changing books is The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, and another one is Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli.

I agree with inside stories about The Hiding Place. It was a life-changing book for me too. I started reading The Gift of Fear. The author's thought process is absolutely amazing. I am entranced while I read it.
