Dog Hunting

When it appeared that my dog might have a serious illness, my husband and I discussed the possibility of our dog having to be put down. We didn't want him to suffer, so decided that would be the best option. My husband then said that he felt we should take an animal break and not have any animals for awhile....like years. I told him I don't want to go that long, I miss our animals. My husband was away during the week that we had to have our dog put down. He didn't notice the emptiness in the house because he wasn't here. But once he came home, he began to tell me how much he missed our dog, and began to talk about getting another. So now we are dog hunting.

For years I have wanted a Welsh Terrier. I don't know what it is about this particular breed that I like so much, but all I can say is that I love to look at it. My husband thinks it is ugly, and doesn't even want to consider it. But I have liked this dog, and dreamed of getting one of these dogs for a very long time. When I was a teenager I wanted an Airedale Terrier which look just like a Welsh, but is much larger. Then I heard that Airedales' aren't too bright, so I abandoned that goal. But then one day I saw a woman walking a Welsh Terrier in our neighborhood and I fell in love....with the dog that is. Here is a picture for those of you who don't know what they look like.

My husband doesn't really know dog breeds, but has been saying that he would like us to get a Pomeranian. When he was young, he had a friend who had one, and he thinks they are great dogs. As we were surfing the internet, looking at different dog breeds, every time he would show me a picture of a pomeranian he would say, "Awww...isn't it cute?". I had to look at my husband very carefully to make sure he wasn't an imposter. Was this the same man I have lived with for almost 21 years? Was this the same man who always said that after our dog died he didn't want another? I laughed and told him I was seeing a side to him that I never knew existed. For those of you who don't know what a Pomeranian looks like, here is a picture.

I don't think it would do any good to do a poll, but I would be interested in your opinion. Which dog do you think we should get, and why?

I love airdale terriers too! I like the Welsh terrier. Big dogs are better they're calmer and better trained in the house, little dogs can be kind of vicious sometimes, they're too smart for their own good. P.S. Airdale terriers are actually very smart, they were even used in WW1!

There are cuter pomeranians out there than pictured...my Mom has one if you want to talk to her about their behavior..she's actually been a great dog...she's just never been socialized with other dogs so has issues with other animals.
I prefer bigger dogs because they don't yap...they bark. I hate yapping.
What kind of dog was your last one?
I love my golden retriever, the only thing I hate about her is that I have to get her shaved all of the time because I can't stand the hair...but it's really not that big of a deal to have her shaved every 3 months or so...
I have always wanted a dog that just sat on my front porch. I heard that blood hounds are the best at sitting on the porch (see Sweet Home Alabama...)
So is it between those two dogs?

The vet told us that Pomeranians are one of the most maintenance free dogs there are. They don't get sick like other dogs and don't need grooming like many dogs. My dog isn't as poofy as that picture, so maybe she isn't a full Pomeranian, but other than that she looks like the picture, but black. She is a good dog, and I house trained her to a litter box, so now I can leave her home alone for a weekend. :0) She does bark when people come to the house, but stops once we accept them and ask them in.

One more thing, I would read about the breed before I got another dog. For instance, Jack Russell terriers are super hyper dogs who chew holes in things like walls and floors when they are left alone!

Definitely research your dog breed BEFORE you bring them home.

You know, we went to visit Ryan and Melissa...you should ask them what their little tiny dog is.
IT WAS VERY GOOD and it is just a puppy. It wasn't annoying at all, I liked it.

Um....would that cute little tiny dog of theirs be the MASTIFF? That's not a puppy, that's a horse! ;)
