We were surprised to learn that we weren't allowed to pump our own gas there. Instead, some old guy who was probably homeless just a few days ago (before getting this job) pumped our gas. His wiry, mangled beard looked like it hadn't been washed in a few days, but at least he wasn't jobless. In a way, I was glad to see all of these people had jobs (there were at least a dozen or so guys in yellow jumpsuits, and it was late in the evening), even if they were the most pointless, lowly jobs in the whole state.
